πMedical and Scientific Significance
Stool donation for medical research has significant therapeutic potential. Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) is a notable example, widely regarded as the most effective treatment for Clostridium difficile, a dangerous intestinal infection. It involves transplanting fecal matter from a healthy donor to patients with repeated infections, helping establish colonies of healthy bacteria. FMT is also investigated for treating other common digestive illnesses, highlighting the growing need for stool donationsβ While we're not yet planning on creating a toilet as inventive as Professor Jae-weon's', our collected poop samples will greatly benefit society. Economic compensation is a significant motivator for stool donors. A study indicated that altruism is a major factor motivating stool donors, with around 42% of respondents citing a desire to help others. Economic compensation was also a motivator for over 35% of respondents. The major deterrents for donation included the time commitment, logistics, and unpleasantness associated with stool collection and transportβ. Our aim is to make the process easier with crypto and anonymity.
